The series chronicles the real-time lives of members of a fictional agency, the Counter-Terrorism Unit (CTU), as they combat various terrorist attacks in the United States. The main character, Jack Bauer, is tasked with tracking down terrorists and tracking down networks, often aided by "moles" within special services or the government.



Jack Bauer is a fictional television character and the protagonist of the American television series 24. Jack is a ruthless person, but it seems that it is his job that has made him that way. He is not afraid to do whatever it takes to achieve the goals he has been given, which makes him in some ways "a man on a mission." Given his high level of training and experience with the threats he has faced, he could easily be considered one of the most dangerous human beings alive. 



 He has been portrayed by British actor Kiefer Sutherland. Jack is a key member of the United States Anti-Terrorism Unit based in Los Angeles California, as well as apparently being the best-trained field agent to carry out the job at hand. 



Jack Bauer graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in English Literature from UCLA, and a Master of Science in Criminology and Law from Berkeley.   
After finishing college, he worked as a member of the Los Angeles Police Department's , and then in the Delta Force, an elite unit of the United States Army specializing in anti-terrorist operations. Apparently, Bauer also did field work for the CIA before being accepted into the CTU, in fact a touch of everything concerning security. 

 



Even though the series portrays Jack as a violent man who will do whatever it takes to achieve his mission, it does not make him any less human: on several occasions, since the death of his wife Teri Bauer, Jack has gone through moments of high emotional burden from which he has to recover, even breaking down in tears. The tremendous emotional burden and the environment of his work have also damaged his ability to maintain a sentimental and romantic relationship with another person.
