Designated Survivor is an American political

thriller drama television series. 

Tom Kirkman, a member of the presidential cabinet, is appointed President of the United States after a terrorist attack kills all of his superiors. He was completely unprepared for the responsibility but was forced to take on the role of President of the United States. 

Kiefer Sutherland , stars as Thomas Kirkman an American

academic named as the designated survivor. The State of the Union address, who suddenly

ascends from the position of u.s. Secretary of

Housing and Urban Development to President of the United States after an explosion kills

everyone ahead of him in the presidential line of

succession. Kirkman deals with his inexperience as head of state while looking to uncover the

truth behind the attack.

It is a question of a president who did not pass the election, nor pass before the parliament, a president who did not want to fulfill the function but in the end it will cost him a lot. After a terrorist attack, all members of the US government die except Peter McLeish who is in cahoots with a billionaire planning to take power by any means.

Designated Survivor tells the story of Housing Minister Tom Kirkman (Kiefer Sutherland), who suddenly becomes the highest American authority, after an extreme nationalist group blows up the Capitol in the middle of the State of the Union speech, when the nation's leaders are gathered. 

The US election system is complicated, that's a fact. That has become evident in recent days, as current Republican President Donald Trump contests, vote by vote, the White House seat with his Democratic contender Joe Biden. We can see some similar details with the series Designated Survivor. 

In three seasons, an entire political plot is told between sudden rises to power, discussions, conspiracies against the government and even presidential elections, which shows the complex democracy of the North American country. 

In the first chapter of the series, before the explosion of an undetermined number of bombs, all the leaders of the State die in the Capitol. All, except Kirkman. This is because, due to his position, he could not be in the same place as his colleagues: he had been named as Designated Survivor, a position that would relieve the government in case the worst happens.

In its third season, Kirkman faces an election against his opponent, former President Cornelius Moss. All this, with the help of experienced strategist Lorraine Zimmer, who finally wins... although with several traps, despite her impeccable record.
