I am among those who think that we should celebrate women every day of the year, but we choose one day of the year to show them how special they are. International Women's Day is a day
commemorated in many countries around the world. When women from all
continents, often separated by national borders and ethnic,
cultural, economic and political differences, come together on this day, they can look back on a tradition of
no less than ninety years of struggle for equality, justice, peace and development.
International Women's Day refers to ordinary women as the architects of history
and has its roots in the centuries-old struggle of women to participate in society on an equal footing with men. According to this, many of us learn while growing up that "women are the foundation of all families".
At the International Conference of Socialist Women held in Copenhagen in 1910, Clara Zetkin proposed and approved the celebration of "Working Women's Day" which began to be celebrated the following year.
The first commemoration took place on March 19, 1911 in Germany, Austria, Denmark, and Switzerland. Since then it has spread to many countries.
In 1972, the General Assembly of the United Nations declared 1975 the International Women's Year, and in 1977 invited States to declare, in accordance with their historical traditions and national customs, a day as the International Day for Women's Rights and International Peace.
This date is used to visualize gender inequality and to claim the struggle for effective equality of rights for women in various areas.
It is usually celebrated in
almost all parts of the world, and is a holiday
in some countries. Some feminist movements argue that it is not a day that
should be celebrated or be a holiday due to its origin, but rather it should serve to
claim rights.
What does March 8 represent for you, women, men, boys, girls? What does this day represent in the culture of your country? Is today with the ideology of woke the international women's day has the same importance? what do you think?
